ನಮ್ಮ ಬಿದನೂರು ನಗರದ ನಾಗರಿಕರಿಗೆ ಸುಸ್ವಾಗತ!
Welcome to the portal of Bidanuru Nagara, ಬಿದನೂರು ನಗರ! Bidanuru Nagara of Keladi Chennamma and Keladi Shivappa Nayaka.
Nagara is a village located at the heart of malenadu (ಮಲೆನಾಡು), 360 km from Bangalore, in Shimoga district (84 km from Shimoga), and Hosanagar taluk (17 km from Hosanagar).
Before Linganamakki dam was constructed, Nagara (literally the “town”) was known as Mudugoppa and was reportedly the taluk head quarters. Thanks to inundation of large parts of the village, the taluk head quarters was shifted to Hosanagar (ಹೊಸ ನಗರ, literally “New Town”). However, even today, in the government documents, Nagara is known as Mudugoppa (Moodugoppa) Gram Panchayat.
Historically, Nagara was known as Venupura and also as Bidanuru (ಬಿದನೂರು, Bidanooru, Bidanur). Bidanuru was the capital city of Keladi Nayaka rulers, before Hyder Ali captured and renamed it as Hyder Nagar. Today, Hyder Nagar is known as (just) Nagar! It is highly ironical that even though ‘Keladi’ Shivappa Nayaka and ‘Keladi’ Chennamma ruled from Bidanuru (Nagara) as capital, they are not known as “Bidanuru Shivappa Nayaka”, and “Bidanuru Chennamma”! ಎಂತಹ ವಿಪರ್ಯಾಸ ನೋಡಿ! Nagara has not been given its share of recognition and respect.
If one browses internet for Nagara, he/she may find that there was no website dedicated to the past glory and present people of Nagara. Why shouldn’t Nagara and people from Nagara have an exclusive website? Buoyed by seeing buzzing activities of Nam Nagara Facebook group with more than three thousand members, this exclusive website, nagara.in, has been initiated. This portal nagara.in is dedicated to past glory, present people of Nagara and also to people whose origins may be traced to Nagara!
This portal and associated native android aoo have been developed to serve as: a source of information about Nagara and surrounding areas, using user generated web pages, questions and answers, polls, surveys, wiki and so on; a social network to share anything related to Nagara among users of this website; a collection of blogs related to Nagara by the approved authors; a user generated events calendar system, and so on.
